Pivo

Drive-Thru

我:「I would like a meal number 2, no cheese and with Coke, please.」

對講機:「$7.34 first window, please.」

Hello? HELLO?!」

對講機:「Yes?」

我:「I just ordered one meal number 2, not two meal number 2.」

對講機:「Two?」

我:「One.」

對講機:「TWO, RIGHT?」

我:「NO! ONE!!!」

對講機:「Ok. Ok. Come on over.」

女:「No, number 10.」

我重申:「Excuse me. I ordered one number 2.」

"If I would be a young man again and had to decide how to make my living, I would not try to become a scientist or scholar or teacher. I would rather choose to be a plumber or a peddler in the hope to find that modest degree of independence still available under present circumstances." – Albert Einstein, November 18, 1954.

Women Better at Washing Hands Than Men
WebMD - Sep 21 9:46 AM
About nine in 10 American adults say they wash their hands after using a public restroom, but only about eight in 10 actually do so, according to a new report.

Las Vegas Trip

First thing first, here are the pictures from Las Vegas:

http://gigglesworld-2005lasvegas.blogspot.com/

Finally, we boarded the plane at midnight. When the announcement of the arrival of the plane was made, many people cheered and clapped their hands. The loudest group was a bunch of middle age men. Perhaps, they were flying to Vegas for a bachelor party of some sort. A bunch of obnoxious men, but I guess if they belonged to a bachelor party group, they deserved to be wild.

Well, well, well, since we departed at midnight, this the first red eye flight since I watched the movie Red Eye. I had the aisle seat and the seat next to me was empty. I guess I did not need to have my ballpoint pen ready (a plot in the movie)… I had several pens in my bag anyway. It takes about five to six hours to fly from Boston to Las Vegas. The flight delay actually maintains my body clock to the Boston time zone: going to sleep at midnight and waking up at around six o’clock Boston time for arrival.

Similar to but not as fancy as Virgin Atlantic, JetBlue also has LCD TV at each seat. The control is not as sophisticated as Virgin’s. It is probably because there is no video game to play. However, it provides live TV via DirectTV. JetBlue seems to be very simplistic. Normally, you would find a brochure or two regarding the airline and information on different destinations, I could not find one in my front seat pocket.

The arrival was smooth. The weather at three o’clock in the morning was cool. However, the taxi driver told me that it would go up to 92 F during the day. He also told me that this weekend is also a Mexican national holiday. There are motorcycle shows. I love chatting with cab drivers. Taxi fare from the airport to Aladdin cost around 15 USD without traffic.

Outside the buffet restaurants in different hotels, food is expensive in Las Vegas. No name bottled water in the room at Aladdin costs 4 USD. Breakfast buffet at Paris before 11:00pm on weekdays costs around 15 USD per person. The trick is to get into the buffet right before breakfast is over. This way, there will be lunch food ready as well. My friends were partly amazed and mostly disgusted by my bloody rare steaks. They called me the blood sucking vampire. Dinner buffet at Bellagio costs between 35-40 USD (including gratuity). They serve Kobe beef, and it was tender and juicy.

Other than food, we walked around the major hotels such as Paris, Aladdin, Bellagio and Caesars Palace. There are many brand name expensive stores. Years ago when I went there, our focus was not at the stores. In addition to sightseeing, my friends had been shopping before I joined them. Looking at the shopping bags, I realized this time that shopping is big.

I went into the stores that I normally would not go. I was offered hor d’oeuves at St. John where there are live models dressing up and standing in front of the store. Their clothes are gorgeous, conservative, and have a hint of allure taste. However, I cannot afford them unless I become someone’s trophy wife (which I have too much pride to do that anyway).

The entire trip was just eating and shopping anyway. Gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins (other than lust, avarice, sloth, wrath, envy and pride). I ate a lot. I do not think I would go to a buffet anytime soon. All I could think of is the parents pigging out in “Spirited Away”! No one checked my ID. I guess I have to admit that I am growing. As planned, I did not gamble. However, I discovered a fun toy: ceramic flat iron for hair styling, a very wonderful thing.

Since I shared a room with two other girls, one of them owns a ceramic flat iron. Instead of the curling iron that my college roommates used many years ago, this iron can straighten and/or curl hair. My girlfriends did my hair during my two-day stay in Vegas. Other than my college roommates, I have not lived with girls for so long. I guess I have missed out on a lot of girly stuff.

I had no idea that my hair could look that nice! My hair style looked like my four year old niece’s. I guess she could have a glimpse of what she will look like after she grows up. I also had no idea how expensive a flat iron could be. The one I saw at Sephora for both wet and dry hair cost 200 USD! Anyway, I bought a much cheaper one made by Remington. Let’s hope it will do a decent job.

Flight from Las Vegas back to Boston was a red eye. I was the only one in the group flying solo. The plane landed at half past eight Sunday morning Boston time. I went home, took a nap, and then headed to the hospital for volunteering. Not sure whether it was from exhaustion, I have been sick since Sunday… However, the trip was great.

拉斯維加斯最新的宣傳口號:「What happens here, stays here.」

Flight Delay

Drive-Thru

Delete。

Putting My Head in the Sand

Lately, the news coverage regarding Hurricane Katrina is everywhere: radio, newspaper, television to name a few. There are disturbing images and reports about the potential disease outbreaks, crimes, deaths, environmental concerns and many more. There are criticisms from all directions on how things were handled. Damage has already been done. It is of best interest to look forward. In some foreign discussion forums, there are also unkind words on how the United States deserves such a disaster. These attitudes are worrisome. Certainly, there are also heart warming and uplifting stories about how the general public, both from within and all over the world, is willing to help either by donations or by volunteering.

Hurricane Katrina is a tragedy that affects a lot of lives. Even though the majority of the people are not affected by it directly, the incident still somehow puts others in a not-so-good mood. There is a lot of noise, and the atmosphere is chaotic. It can be overwhelming. There seems to be a rock in my heart. Today, a girl friend and I have decided to avoid the news for a while to calm down our senses and to unload the negative energy. It sounds like a coward thing to do, but we are experimenting if we would feel better without any hurricane related news for a day or two… After work, I was getting ready to go home. The news radio was on as soon as I started the engine. I turned off the radio. I missed the business roundup, the traffic report, and the weather forecast. I have always thought that it is better to be informed regardless of good or bad news. At home using the computer, I found out most of my links were news websites.

I did not realize I was such a news junkie until now. This is challenging. Let’s see if I can truly live two days without any news.

A Trip to Maine

Boat Coming Home

The first time I visited the lighthouse in Maine was back in my freshman year in college. The first time I went to the Ogunquit beach was three years ago. Yesterday, we went to the lighthouse and passed by the beach. Other than some passing showers, the weather was actually very nice: sunshine, cool breeze, blue sky, white clouds…

Whenever I go to Maine, I think of Stephen King, a thriller writer. Maine is such a quiet and peaceful place. I love the ocean even though I do not know how to swim. Tsunami and flooding aside, it would be one of the dreams come true (yes, I am greedy) if I could have my dream home on a cliff facing the ocean.

Here are the pictures taken from this trip:

http://gigglesworld-2005maine.blogspot.com/

I particularly like the picture above. A boat coming home… It’s good to be home.

Vespa Granturismo 200
